Chinese FM Wang Yi meets with his Indonesian counterpart, Sugiono, in Beijing on Monday for bilateral talks.

Wang, who is also a member of the CPC Central Committee’s Political Bureau, stated that China and Indonesia have formed a crucial consensus to build a shared future community with both regional and global significance. He highlighted that their cooperation framework has evolved from four key areas—political, economic, cultural, and maritime—to now include security as a fifth pillar, paving the way for deeper collaboration.

He emphasized the importance of working together to promote high-quality joint initiatives, protect free trade, support the growth of new industries, and broaden cooperation in areas that directly impact people’s well-being.

Pointing out that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, Wang said that amid global economic challenges and trade tensions driven by the U.S., China and Indonesia should take a proactive role in strengthening trust and collaboration as defenders of globalization and trade freedom.

He urged both countries to jointly advocate for the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, protect the WTO-centered multilateral trade system, uphold global fairness and justice, and present a united, open stance to the international community—amplifying the global relevance of China-Indonesia relations.

Sugiono acknowledged that China is Indonesia’s top trading partner and a key investor, and affirmed that Indonesia views China as one of its most vital strategic allies, with consistently strong bilateral relations.

He noted that 2025 also commemorates the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, and expressed Indonesia’s commitment to further strengthening its ties with China in all sectors.

Sugiono conveyed Indonesia’s interest in boosting engagement with China across various domains, including trade, investment, agriculture, fisheries, health care, clean energy, and innovation, as well as enhancing cultural and people-to-people connections. He reaffirmed Indonesia’s aim to further elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership and jointly foster regional growth and resilience.

A reception was held in Beijing the same day to celebrate 75 years of China-Indonesia diplomatic relations and the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference.

The event was attended by senior Chinese and Indonesian officials, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Defense Minister Dong Jun, and Indonesia’s Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, along with Foreign Minister Sugiono.
