Chinese FM meets Cuban counterpart in Brazil to discuss bilateral relations and a shared future with a focus on development.
On April 29, 2025, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and China’s Foreign Minister, held a meeting with Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla in Rio de Janeiro.
Wang Yi emphasized that China and Cuba share a deep and trusted partnership. He noted that the consensus reached between Presidents Xi Jinping and Miguel Díaz-Canel on building a China-Cuba community with a shared future is steering bilateral ties into a new era of strong development. Wang praised Cuba’s firm stance against power politics and its defense of sovereignty and national pride, reaffirming China’s continued support for Cuba’s resistance against external interference and economic blockade. He also expressed China’s readiness to expand cooperation with Cuba to help boost its capacity for self-reliant growth.
Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla highlighted the strong and enduring friendship between Cuba and China. He noted that despite global changes, both countries have consistently supported each other and upheld the shared ideals of socialism. Parrilla expressed gratitude for China’s longstanding support and reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to strengthening high-level contacts and cooperation. He also conveyed Cuba’s hope to continue receiving China’s backing in its development and national revitalization efforts.
Both foreign ministers also discussed deepening cooperation within the BRICS framework and enhancing ties between China and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
