Chinese FM Wang Yi meets Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Beijing on Wednesday.
Wang, who is also a senior member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, welcomed Muttaqi on the 70th anniversary of China-Afghanistan diplomatic ties. He emphasized the historic and supportive relationship between the two neighboring nations.
Reaffirming China’s respect for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and the choices of its people, Wang assured continued Chinese support for Afghanistan’s efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability.
He expressed China’s willingness to build on the traditional friendship, boost political trust, and deepen practical cooperation, aiming to benefit both nations and promote regional peace.
Wang also said China is ready to broaden cooperation with Afghanistan in diverse sectors including trade, agriculture, energy, poverty alleviation, disaster response, health, education, and security.
He noted that China will increase imports of Afghan products and continue to assist in Afghanistan’s reconstruction and socioeconomic development.
Muttaqi thanked China for its consistent support of Afghanistan’s development and for standing by it in the international community.
He emphasized Afghanistan’s high regard for its relationship with China, affirmed its commitment to the one-China policy, and opposed any foreign interference in China’s domestic matters.
Muttaqi expressed Afghanistan’s intent to enhance trust and broaden cooperation with China. He also acknowledged China’s security concerns and vowed not to allow Afghan territory to be used against China.
He concluded by stating Afghanistan’s readiness to collaborate with China on security issues, combat crime, protect Chinese interests in Afghanistan, and work together for regional peace and security.
