July 31 – Chinese FM holds talks with Zambian counterpart, Mulambo Haimbe in Beijing on Wednesday to enhance practical cooperation.
Wang Yi, a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, highlighted the recent elevation of China-Zambia relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, marking a new phase in their bilateral relationship.
China values Zambia’s adherence to the one-China principle and aims to strengthen mutual trust, enhance practical cooperation, and support each other on core issues, Wang emphasized.
He proposed activating the Tanzania-Zambia Railway and coordinating comprehensive development along the route to help Zambia leverage its resources for growth and improve its industrial capabilities.
Wang updated Haimbe on the outcomes of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, noting that China’s deepened reform efforts would present new opportunities for developing countries like Zambia.
China is eager to exchange governance experiences with Zambia, support its national development path, and aid in its modernization process, Wang added.
With the new Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit scheduled in Beijing this September, Wang expressed China’s readiness to work with African nations to advance traditional friendships and elevate China-Africa relations.
Haimbe congratulated China on the plenum’s success and expressed Zambia’s eagerness to learn from China’s governance practices to improve its own.
Zambia values its long-standing friendship with China and remains committed to the one-China principle while supporting China’s sovereignty, Haimbe noted.
He mentioned President Hichilema’s successful visit to China last year and his anticipation of the FOCAC summit’s success, emphasizing Zambia’s desire to enhance the strategic partnership and attract more Chinese investment, especially in agriculture, energy, and mining.
Both sides agreed to boost communication and coordination on international and regional matters.
