Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday.
During the call, Araghchi updated Wang on the latest developments in the region and voiced hope that the international community would unite in calling for an end to Israel’s military operations.
He expressed appreciation for China’s consistent support of Iran’s stance and said he believes China will take on an even greater role in promoting peace and stability across the region.
Wang, who is also a member of the Communist Party of China’s Political Bureau, strongly condemned Israel’s violations of Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. He criticized the attacks on Iranian officials and the resulting civilian casualties.
He reaffirmed China’s backing for Iran in defending its sovereignty, protecting its legitimate rights, and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
Wang emphasized that Israel’s actions represent a grave breach of the UN Charter and fundamental norms of international conduct. He particularly warned that Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites risk setting a perilous and destructive precedent.
He added that China is ready to keep engaging with Iran and other concerned parties to continue contributing constructively to easing tensions in the region.
