Chinese FM Wang Yi says 2024 FOCAC summit achieves “complete success” and explained the elevation of China Africa ties to a bilateral level.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi declared on Thursday that the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was a complete success. Speaking alongside Senegalese Foreign Minister Yacine Fall and Congolese Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso, Wang highlighted the summit’s significant achievements.
Wang explained that relations between China and African countries with diplomatic ties to China have been elevated to strategic levels. The characterization of China-Africa relations has now been defined as an “all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.”
He outlined six major proposals for advancing China-Africa modernization and revealed a comprehensive blueprint for future cooperation. Additionally, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced 10 partnership actions to deepen China-Africa cooperation over the next three years.
Wang emphasized that China and Africa have pledged to support each other on core interests, uphold true multilateralism, and combat prejudice and historical injustice. Both sides aim to modernize in ways that benefit all people.
Wang also noted that the summit showcased the Global South’s strong confidence in solidarity and cooperation.
Additionally, ministers Fall and Gakosso acknowledged that Africa-China cooperation has transformed Africa’s destiny and will be remembered as a model for international collaboration. They expressed Africa’s readiness to implement the summit’s outcomes, strengthen ties with China, and achieve shared development and prosperity.
