Chinese delegation eyes housing, trade investment in Pakistan as a senior delegation held a meeting with Minister for Housing and Works.
A senior Chinese business delegation, headed by DongKai International Investment CEO Yao Yu, met with Pakistan’s Minister for Housing and Works, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, in Islamabad on Monday.
The visiting team, comprising representatives from top construction and technology companies, engaged with key Pakistani officials to examine potential investments in Pakistan’s housing sector.
Also present at the meeting were Housing and Works Secretary Hamid Yaqub Sheikh, the CEO of the Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation (PHAF), and the Director General of the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA).
Minister Pirzada warmly received the delegation and reiterated the strong and historic bond between Pakistan and China. He highlighted the government’s focus on innovation in housing and stressed the value of prefabricated and modular construction techniques for achieving affordability, sustainability, and timely project execution.
Yao Yu, in turn, presented a variety of modern housing designs and advanced building technologies. He also suggested the development of a Dragon Mart-style wholesale trade center in Pakistan, inspired by Dubai’s successful commercial hub.
He noted that such a project could deepen bilateral trade relations, spur urban growth, empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and create job opportunities.
Later in the meeting, officials from FGEHA and PHAF shared presentations detailing prime investment opportunities, potential joint ventures, and public-private partnership frameworks. They identified major development zones including Islamabad, Quetta, Karachi, Peshawar, Gwadar, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
