Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun held separate meetings on Wednesday with defense chiefs from Belarus, Iran, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia in Qingdao, a city in eastern China.
These bilateral meetings were held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defense Ministers’ Meeting, which runs from Wednesday to Thursday.
During his discussions, Dong criticized the rise of unilateralism and protectionism, warning that hegemonic and coercive actions are damaging the international order and creating global instability.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration through multilateral platforms like the United Nations and the SCO, calling for joint efforts to uphold justice, fairness, and global strategic balance.
The visiting defense ministers praised China’s leadership as the rotating SCO chair, highlighting its efforts in improving institutional frameworks and boosting intersectoral cooperation. They also expressed strong interest in deepening military collaboration.
