On China’s National Day, a prominent Chinese business delegation visited the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Headquarters in Karachi to discuss ways to improve trade relations between Pakistan and China. Key topics included developing a large-scale wholesale market in Karachi, enhancing logistics infrastructure, streamlining customs procedures, and addressing barriers to commodity trade.
TDAP officials, including Director General Aasim Tiwana, warmly welcomed the delegation, which included William X. Wan, CEO of Pak Belt & Road Trading International Limited, Bilal Janjua, Chairman of China (Pvt) Limited, and Muhammad Irahin, General Manager of Pak Belt & Road Trading International. The delegation expressed their appreciation for TDAP’s trade facilitation efforts, while also pointing out challenges, such as limited access to social media platforms in China, which hampers awareness of Pakistani products and exhibitions.
The Chinese delegation proposed holding exhibitions in China with TDAP’s support and pledged full cooperation in such initiatives. They also provided policy suggestions for the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) and expressed a willingness to work jointly with TDAP on trade facilitation efforts.
Both parties acknowledged the importance of boosting bilateral trade, which currently stands at USD 14 billion. Pakistan’s exports to China total USD 2.76 billion, while imports from China are at USD 11.7 billion.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to work on the proposed trade facilitation measures, with a focus on strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
