Chinese air force planes depart for air show in Egypt formation including a Y-20, a large transport aircraft developed in China.
On Monday, eight aircraft from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force departed from a northwest China airport to participate in an air show in Egypt, set for September 3 to 5.
The formation includes a Y-20, a large transport aircraft developed in China, and seven J-10 stealth fighter jets from the Bayi Aerobatic Team, as stated by the air force.
Air force spokesperson Xie Peng mentioned that this marks the Bayi Aerobatic Team’s first performance in an African country and their longest overseas flight so far.
While in Egypt, the formation will fly over the pyramids, with the Y-20 making its debut international performance, Xie added.
Military experts noted that the journey, spanning nearly 10,000 km and crossing multiple time zones, presents significant challenges due to rapid temperature changes.
To prepare, the aircrew have minimized accompanying supplies and designed specific maneuvers for the Y-20’s first show, according to pilot Yuan Bo.
