China’s Two Sessions have outlined a comprehensive strategy for advancing green transformation as the country enters the 15th Five-Year Plan period. The annual meetings of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference focused international attention on China’s plans to accelerate sustainable economic and social development.
China has reported notable environmental progress in recent years. In 2025, carbon dioxide emissions per 10,000 yuan of GDP declined by 5 percent, while the proportion of days with good or excellent air quality in cities at or above prefectural level reached 89.3 percent. Green electricity accounted for nearly 40 percent of the country’s total power consumption, supported by the world’s largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system.
China has also expanded afforestation efforts and strengthened policies aimed at carbon reduction, pollution control, and ecological protection. Through long-term planning and continued investment in green technologies, the country aims to support global climate efforts while promoting sustainable development and environmental protection in the coming years.
