The number of 5G mobile users in China surpassed one billion by late November, as reported by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Monday.
A total of 1.002 billion 5G subscribers now make up 56% of all mobile users in the country, including customers of major telecom operators such as China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, and China Broadnet. This reflects a 9.4 percentage point growth in 5G user share compared to the same period last year.
The total mobile subscriber base in China reached 1.79 billion by November’s end, marking a net addition of 46.82 million users since the close of the previous year, as per MIIT data.
China’s advancements in network infrastructure, such as expanding 5G networks, gigabit optical connectivity, and the Internet of Things (IoT), have driven the rise in connected users and a significant surge in mobile data traffic.
By the end of November, the nation had deployed 4.191 million 5G base stations, reflecting an increase of 815,000 from the end of the previous year, according to the ministry.
