China will collaborate with Global South on Ukraine crisis to achieve peace and stability in the region.
China will collaborate with other members of the Group of Friends for Peace on the Ukraine crisis to help achieve peace as soon as possible, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated on Monday.
In September, China joined Brazil, Algeria, and other Global South nations to establish the Group of Friends for Peace on the Ukraine crisis.
The group recently convened in New York, with representatives from 17 Global South countries, including China, Brazil, Algeria, South Africa, and Türkiye, attending the meeting, Mao revealed during a daily press briefing.
During the meeting, the group assessed the current state and future trajectory of the Ukraine crisis, expressing concern over the recent escalation of the conflict. They reaffirmed principles such as respecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, addressing legitimate concerns, and pursuing peaceful resolutions to international disputes.
Mao noted that the group urged de-escalation, emphasizing the need to prevent further battlefield expansion and conflict escalation. They reiterated their support for a comprehensive and lasting political resolution to the Ukraine crisis through diplomacy, aligned with the United Nations Charter and international law, while recognizing the constructive role of Global South countries in achieving peace.
