China warns against trade deals that undermines Chinese interests in the name of any tariff relief.
China has strongly criticized any attempt by other nations to secure trade deals with the United States that compromise Chinese interests in return for so-called “tariff relief,” according to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce on Saturday.
Responding to media questions about recent U.S. trade negotiations, the spokesperson stated that “if such a situation arises, China will not accept it and will take resolute countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.”
The spokesperson further remarked that since April, the U.S. has been promoting what it calls “reciprocal tariffs” with its trading partners, a move China sees as unilateral pressure that undermines the multilateral trading system and disrupts the global trade order. China has consistently opposed such actions.
While China supports resolving trade disagreements through equal and fair dialogue, it urges all parties to maintain justice, uphold global trade rules, and defend the integrity of the multilateral system.
“It is proven that only by firmly defending its principle and position can a country truly protect its legitimate rights,” the spokesperson concluded.
