A Chinese envoy to the United Nations (UN) on Friday urged the United States to cease its baseless accusations and avoid provoking confrontation regarding the Ukraine conflict.
Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, told the UN Security Council that the crisis in Ukraine continues with no signs of resolution, as the fighting remains unabated.
Highlighting that weapons may win battles but cannot achieve lasting peace, he called on all parties involved to initiate peace talks promptly and urged the international community to actively facilitate such efforts.
Since the onset of the conflict, China has consistently advocated for a ceasefire, negotiations, and the restoration of peace, Geng noted. He added that Russia, Ukraine, the Global South, and many European nations have recognized and welcomed China’s role in resolving the crisis.
Geng criticized the United States as the sole nation ignoring China’s efforts, accusing it of spreading false information and undermining China’s contributions to peace.
He stated that China neither created the Ukraine crisis nor is it a party to it, emphasizing that the United States cannot simultaneously expect China to play a constructive role while discrediting and pressuring it.
The envoy urged the U.S. to abandon its baseless blame game and provocations, and instead work collaboratively with other nations, including China, to foster unity, build consensus, and create conditions for a political resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
