China urges U.S. to implement consensus reached on trade as Foreign Ministry spokesperson responded comments made by President Donald Trump on his social media.
China expressed hope that the United States will collaborate in implementing the key agreements made by both countries’ presidents during their June 5 phone call, and fully utilize the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism, according to a statement by the Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made these remarks during a routine press conference, responding to social media comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the inaugural meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism, which was held in London from Monday to Tuesday.
Lin highlighted that the meeting followed the strategic direction set by the two heads of state. Both sides agreed in principle to implement the consensus reached during the June 5 phone call and reinforce progress made in earlier trade talks held in Geneva. The talks also produced new developments in resolving mutual economic and trade concerns.
He emphasized that China consistently aligns its actions with its commitments and urged both parties to uphold the agreements that have now been established.
Lin concluded by expressing China’s desire for the U.S. to work together in expanding mutual understanding, minimizing misjudgments, and enhancing cooperation through constructive communication.
