A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Wednesday called on the European Union (EU) to adopt a more balanced and pragmatic approach toward China, urging a shift toward objective and rational understanding.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made these comments during a regular press briefing in response to recent remarks by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen about China-EU relations.
Highlighting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and the EU, Mao emphasized the significance of the moment to reflect on past achievements and move forward.
She urged the EU to reassess its perception of China and adopt a more constructive and realistic policy stance.
Mao stressed that it is not the economic and trade relations between China and the EU that require rebalancing, but rather the EU’s mindset toward China.
Given today’s turbulent global landscape, she expressed hope that the EU will work alongside China to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation, manage differences effectively, and foster the steady, long-term growth of bilateral relations.
