China has expressed support for a post-war governance framework for Gaza that is backed by the Palestinian people and agreed upon by Arab nations, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on Wednesday.
During an emergency summit held in Cairo on Tuesday, Arab leaders approved Egypt’s proposed reconstruction plan for Gaza, which is expected to cost $53 billion. The plan aims to rebuild the region while preventing the displacement of Palestinian residents.
The summit also reached a consensus on establishing a non-partisan technocratic committee to govern Gaza for at least six months under the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority.
Lin emphasized China’s backing of Egypt and other Arab nations in their efforts to ensure the steady implementation of the Gaza ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian assistance, and restore stability and security in the region.
He further stressed that the principle of “Palestinians governing Palestine” should guide Gaza’s post-war administration. This approach aligns with the two-state solution, which aims to foster peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel and achieve long-term stability in the Middle East.
