China and Sri Lanka expressed their mutual interest in advancing the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative during recent meetings between Sri Lankan leaders and a senior Chinese political advisor.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya held separate meetings with Qin Boyong, the Vice Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, on Wednesday and Tuesday, respectively.
Qin emphasized China’s commitment to furthering high-quality Belt and Road development with Sri Lanka, under the strategic leadership of both countries’ heads of state, fostering a long-lasting partnership based on mutual support and friendship.
The Sri Lankan leaders expressed gratitude for China’s aid in the nation’s development, reaffirming their adherence to the one-China principle and their intention to strengthen high-level exchanges, build the Belt and Road Initiative, and expand cooperation in various sectors.
During his visit to Sri Lanka from Monday to Thursday, Qin also met with Parliament Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne.
