China and Russia conducted their 19th round of annual strategic security consultations in Beijing on Tuesday, where both sides engaged in thorough discussions on key issues of shared concern regarding strategic security.
The meeting was co-chaired by Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Sergei Shoigu, secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. Wang highlighted that, under the leadership of the two presidents, China-Russia relations have continued to develop positively and remain stable, despite changes in the global landscape.
Wang emphasized that both nations uphold the principles of enduring friendship, strategic coordination, and mutually beneficial cooperation, all of which are essential to the fundamental interests of their peoples.
He noted that China and Russia have consistently supported each other on issues related to their core interests, strengthened political mutual trust, and expanded practical cooperation. This collaboration has established a new model for relations between neighboring major countries and fostered solidarity within the Global South.
Wang further stated that, based on the consensus between the two heads of state, the China-Russia strategic security consultation mechanism should enhance coordination on overarching strategic and security issues that are vital to the development and interests of both countries.
He also called for greater exchanges and multilateral cooperation between China and Russia to address the evolving international environment, ensuring that both countries maintain the momentum of their relationship and contribute to global strategic stability.
Shoigu expressed Russia’s readiness to work with China to implement the agreements reached by their leaders and to enhance cooperation within multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and BRICS, with the goal of further developing Russia-China relations.
