Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated on Monday that China is willing to collaborate with the global community to help restore the world economy as soon as possible.
He made these comments during a meeting with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, held on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit.
Li highlighted that global trade is currently facing significant challenges due to increasing unilateralism and protectionism, which have disrupted the international trade order and created serious difficulties for global economic growth and national development.
In light of these challenges, he noted that the international community is calling more strongly for the protection of the multilateral trading system and expects the WTO to play a more dynamic role.
Acknowledging that economic globalization is a historic and irreversible trend, Li emphasized China’s continued commitment to multilateralism and free trade. He also reiterated China’s support for WTO reforms, the strengthening of trade rules, and meaningful outcomes at the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference.
Li expressed confidence in China’s economic resilience, noting that the country has ample resources to withstand external pressures and is capable of maintaining stable and healthy economic growth.
He explained that China has adopted more proactive macroeconomic policies this year, promoted domestic demand, and launched initiatives to stimulate consumption, driven by a massive market of over 1.4 billion people.
Li concluded by saying China will further open up voluntarily, uphold WTO rules and market principles, and continue to share development opportunities with other nations, contributing positively to global growth.
