China reaffirms support for Arab strategic autonomy
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated on Wednesday that China firmly supports Arab countries in enhancing their strategic autonomy, unity, and self-reliance while pursuing development paths tailored to their own national conditions. He made the remarks during a meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, emphasizing China’s long-standing strategic approach to relations with Arab nations and its strong support for their just causes.

Li described China and Arab nations as trustworthy friends and reliable partners, noting that under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and Arab leaders, China-Arab relations have entered their strongest period to date. He reiterated China’s readiness to deepen ties with the Arab League, build strategic trust, and promote cooperation in pursuit of shared modernization and a higher-level community with a shared future.

He expressed China’s willingness to align development strategies with Arab countries and expand high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. Li called for broader collaboration in traditional areas like energy, trade, and investment, as well as in emerging sectors such as new energy, artificial intelligence, digital and blue economies.

Li also emphasized the importance of coordinating landmark and smaller-scale joint projects that deliver tangible benefits to both populations. He advocated for increased cultural and people-to-people exchanges, including youth and academic collaboration, and improved mechanisms to facilitate personnel movement between China and Arab countries.

China is also ready to intensify coordination with Arab countries on global platforms like the United Nations, WTO, SCO, and G20. Li underscored the importance of presenting a united voice in support of fair and just global governance.

He further expressed hope that the Arab League would continue playing a key role in advancing China-Arab cooperation and help ensure the success of the second China-Arab States Summit scheduled for next year.

In response, Secretary-General Aboul-Gheit affirmed that China is a valued friend and partner to Arab states, and highlighted the strong momentum in bilateral cooperation. He voiced the Arab League’s full support for the one-China principle, the Belt and Road Initiative, and President Xi Jinping’s three global initiatives.

He praised China’s remarkable development and expressed gratitude for its continued support for Arab economic and social progress. The Arab side, he said, looks forward to working with China to further strengthen political trust, mutual support, and cooperation in trade, investment, and cultural ties under the framework of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.

Aboul-Gheit affirmed the Arab League’s commitment to implementing the outcomes of the first China-Arab Summit and jointly making the second summit a success. He also appreciated China’s consistent support for Arab countries in multilateral forums and expressed readiness to continue working with China to uphold multilateralism and promote global peace and development.
