China’s railways are preparing for a significant increase in travel during the upcoming three-day Qingming Festival holiday, which begins this Friday.
According to China Railway, the holiday travel rush will extend over five days, beginning on Thursday. The railway operator anticipates a total of 84.5 million passenger trips from April 3 to 7, with an average of 16.9 million trips per day.
The peak travel period is expected to occur on Friday, as forecasted by the railway operator.
This year, Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, will fall on April 4. It is a traditional Chinese holiday where people honor their deceased relatives and ancestors. The holiday also offers a brief respite for citizens, who use the time to participate in outdoor activities and sightseeing.
