Dalian Ocean University (DLOU) of China and Pakistan’s Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences (LUAWMS) have formalized a memorandum of understanding aimed at deepening cooperation in marine science and academic exchange. The ceremony was held in Dalian, with a LUAWMS delegation headed by Vice Chancellor Abdul Malik holding talks with DLOU Vice President Liu Wenhe and other senior representatives of the Chinese institution.
Areas Targeted for Collaboration
A statement released by DLOU outlined that the two universities will concentrate their joint efforts on three core fronts: sharing and applying marine big data, studying shifts occurring within ocean environments, and promoting advanced aquaculture practices. This alignment of priorities is expected to lay the groundwork for sustained scientific exchange between the two sides in the years to come.
Faculty Exchange and Lab Proposal Included
Beyond research cooperation, the MoU paves the way for joint training initiatives benefiting both teachers and students, along with shared research ventures spanning multiple disciplines within marine sciences. Notably, the agreement also floats a proposal to build a joint marine laboratory under the Belt and Road Initiative, intended to function as a common research base for both institutions.
Part of Widening Academic Cooperation
This latest MoU adds another chapter to the expanding academic relationship between Pakistan and China, situated within the wider framework of educational collaboration under CPEC. Representatives from both universities voiced confidence that the partnership would translate into meaningful gains for marine research and skill development going forward.
