China and Pakistan have recently launched joint research focused on reusing bulk industrial solid waste and desert sand for sustainable development.
An agreement was signed between Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT), Shihezi University (SHZU), Karakoram International University (KIU), and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps Highway Science and Technology Co., Ltd.
The collaboration’s key project, titled “Research and Application of Key Technologies for Solid Waste-Based Green and Low-Carbon Fluidized Solidified Soil,” was reported on Wednesday.
Considering Xinjiang’s geographical conditions, the research aims to develop high-performance cementitious materials using solid waste to enhance desert sand, producing eco-friendly and low-carbon solidified soil. This initiative will reduce solid waste disposal costs, minimize engineering spoil transportation expenses, lower construction costs, and promote the commercial use of industrial waste.
As part of the agreement, the four institutions will leverage their resources to advance scientific research, talent development, and technology transfer in transportation infrastructure construction and maintenance.
