The China-Pakistan Donkey Industry Development Forum opened in Islamabad on September 18, 2025, under the theme “Creating Opportunities Together, Winning the Future Together.” The event was co-hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan and Sangyang Industrial (Beijing) Group Co., Ltd., with support from the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and the Ministry of National Food Security & Research.
Hundreds of government officials, scholars, business leaders, and industry experts from both countries attended. The forum focused on building synergies across the donkey industry supply chain, setting standards, and creating sustainable business models.

In their opening remarks, Amir Mohyuddin (Ministry of National Food Security & Research), Shi Yuanqiang (Chinese Embassy), Wang Huihua (CCCPK), Liu Qiangde (CAAA), and Professor Zhang Jianhua (CAU) highlighted the donkey industry’s potential as a vital part of specialised livestock farming.
They emphasised scalability, branding, and standardisation to meet international market needs. Moreover, experts discussed genetic resource conservation, healthy breeding practices, high-value by-product utilisation, and the digital transformation of the industry.
Strengthening regulation and partnerships
Shi Yuanqiang congratulated participants and described donkey industry cooperation as a gateway for agricultural diversification and deeper economic ties between China and Pakistan.
The Ministry of National Food Security announced new regulatory measures to guide exports and stop illegal slaughter or smuggling. Meanwhile, the China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan issued a Self-Regulation Declaration. It pledged strict compliance with laws, sustainability principles, and respect for cultural and religious sensitivities.
Several agreements were signed to strengthen cooperation. These included a Letter of Intent between PARC and Sangyang Industrial, an MoU for the China-Pakistan Joint Laboratory for Donkey Industry Innovation, and agreements between Cholistan University, Sangyang Global, and Shandong’s Ejiao Industry Association.
Prospects for Pakistan’s rural economy
Wen Ming, CEO of Sangyang Industrial, explained the company’s plan to use contract farming for donkey production in Pakistan. He stressed that with Chinese expertise and Pakistani support, the sector could become high-quality, sustainable, and environmentally friendly.
In addition, Professor Zeng Shenming of China Agricultural University underlined the need for selective breeding, precision feeding, and advanced technologies. These steps, he said, would improve efficiency, reduce costs, and raise competitiveness.
Forum outcome and future vision
The China-Pakistan Donkey Industry Development Forum ended with participants reaffirming their commitment to cooperation and innovation. They agreed that a modern donkey industry could help rural communities, raise farmer incomes, and meet the growing needs of both Pakistani and Chinese markets.
