China, Netherlands reinforce support for multilateralism as the two foreign ministers meet in Beijing.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Dutch counterpart, Caspar Veldkamp, in Beijing on Thursday for diplomatic discussions.
Wang Yi, who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, expressed China’s readiness to boost dialogue with the Netherlands, deepen practical cooperation, and reinforce multilateral ties. He emphasized these efforts would contribute positively to China-EU relations, global economic recovery, and the stability of international industrial and supply chains.
He highlighted China’s new policies on opening-up and encouraged the Netherlands to take advantage of emerging opportunities. Wang also urged the Dutch government to ensure a fair, just, and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese businesses operating in the Netherlands.
Foreign Minister Veldkamp reiterated the Netherlands’ adherence to the one-China policy. He expressed interest in enhancing high-level exchanges and deepening practical collaboration with China, while also affirming support for multilateralism.
Veldkamp emphasized the strategic importance of Europe-China ties and noted that the Netherlands is committed to actively promoting stronger EU-China relations.
After thorough discussions, both parties reached consensus on six major areas of cooperation.
They agreed to maintain regular exchanges and expand collaboration in sectors such as trade, technology, agriculture, and water resource management.
The ministers also agreed to continue communication on semiconductors and other technological cooperation through established channels.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and the principles of free trade, supporting the multilateral trade system centered around the World Trade Organization. They also agreed to enhance cooperation on climate resilience and green transformation initiatives.
Additionally, both countries pledged to jointly promote equal rights for all, with a particular focus on empowering women and girls through global efforts and meaningful action.
