China, Malaysia should explore emerging fields cooperation, Premier Li stated during a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Shanghai.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized on Tuesday the importance of strengthening China-Malaysia cooperation, encouraging both countries to align their development strategies, explore emerging sectors, and open new avenues for collaboration.
Li made these remarks during a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who was attending the 7th China International Import Expo in Shanghai. He highlighted that China-Malaysia relations have reached a new phase, and China is eager to work with Malaysia on implementing key agreements set by their leaders. Li underscored mutual respect, trust, and equality as the foundation of their partnership, aiming for a mutually beneficial cooperation to support shared growth and prosperity.
Li affirmed China’s commitment to backing Malaysia on issues of fundamental interest and concern. He proposed that both countries strengthen their development strategy alignment, exchange governance insights, and bolster cooperation in various sectors. He stressed the role of strategic collaboration in driving modernization in both nations.
He called for progress on flagship projects like the East Coast Rail Link and the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” initiative, while also urging for new partnerships in emerging fields. Additionally, Li highlighted the importance of cultural exchanges, educational ties, and visa facilitation to enhance mutual understanding, especially among young people.
Li pledged strong support for Malaysia’s upcoming chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and expressed China’s willingness to work within regional and multilateral frameworks, such as China-ASEAN, to support regional economic integration and promote Asia’s peaceful development.
Prime Minister Anwar affirmed Malaysia’s strong relationship with China, describing it as a crucial partner. He expressed a desire to deepen Belt and Road cooperation, expand collaboration in trade, investment, digital economy, and education, and increase people-to-people exchanges. He also voiced support for China’s bid to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Anwar added that Malaysia aims to leverage its ASEAN chairmanship next year to enhance cooperation with China on both regional and international issues.
