China leads global 5G with more than 50% of users as revealed in a recent report.
The World Internet Development Report 2024 reveals that China is home to over half of the world’s 1.57 billion 5G users. Released during the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China, the report underscores the country’s leadership in the global 5G sector. By June 2024, China had constructed the largest 5G network worldwide, boasting 889 million 5G mobile users—52% of the global total.
China’s extensive 5G network now spans every county across the nation, and it leads the world in gigabit internet adoption, with over 70% of global gigabit users residing there. These developments highlight China’s advanced telecommunications infrastructure and its role as a global frontrunner in digital connectivity.
Beyond its 5G advancements, China has made remarkable strides in 6G technology. The country has successfully established the first 6G field test network, integrating communication and intelligence. This milestone underscores China’s commitment to spearheading the evolution of next-generation wireless technology.
