The China-Laos Railway has handled over 10 million tonnes of imported and exported goods since its launch in December 2021, according to local authorities.
As of Monday, the total value of these goods reached approximately 40.77 billion yuan (about 5.74 billion U.S. dollars), based on customs data released Tuesday.
The variety of goods transported via the railway has expanded from 500 to over 3,000, thanks to initiatives by Kunming Customs, including the development of a smart port.
In the first eight months of 2024, the railway handled more than 3.58 million tonnes of goods, marking a 22.8 percent year-on-year increase.
A key project of the Belt and Road Initiative, the 1,035-km China-Laos Railway connects Kunming in Yunnan Province with Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
