China, Kazakhstan to enhance ties for regional, global development as President XI held a meeting with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on Monday that China is prepared to deepen cooperation with Kazakhstan to promote regional and global peace and development, using the stability and strength of their bilateral relations as a positive force.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ahead of the second China-Central Asia Summit.
President Xi noted that China-Kazakhstan relations have remained strong despite international changes. He attributed this to the geographical closeness, historical friendship between the peoples, and the natural choice of both nations to pursue development in partnership.
Under the leadership of both presidents in recent years, Xi said, the vision of a China-Kazakhstan community with a shared future has taken shape with more concrete and people-centered achievements, greatly benefiting citizens of both countries.
He reaffirmed that China has always regarded its relationship with Kazakhstan from a strategic and long-term angle and is committed to strengthening the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Xi stressed that both countries are at crucial stages in their respective national development journeys, making it essential to push forward comprehensive cooperation on all fronts.
He proposed that high-level strategic trust should be the guiding principle of bilateral relations, urging both countries to continue backing each other on key national issues, align their development strategies, and serve as pillars of support for one another in a complex global environment.
Secondly, Xi highlighted the importance of deepening high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. He called for expanding collaboration in areas like trade, investment, energy, infrastructure development—including cross-border railways and upgraded ports—as well as connectivity, green technology, and sustainable growth.
Thirdly, Xi called for enhanced security cooperation to maintain peace and stability. This includes increasing exchanges in law enforcement and defense, joint efforts against terrorism and extremism, and deeper coordination in emergency and disaster response.
Fourth, he emphasized promoting diverse cultural and people-to-people exchanges to strengthen the foundation of the China-Kazakhstan friendship. Xi suggested making the China tourism year in Kazakhstan a success and encouraging greater interaction among youth, media, think tanks, and local communities.
Amid global uncertainty and instability, Xi stressed that both countries should work together to protect the international system centered on the UN, uphold international law, champion true multilateralism, and defend the common interests of developing nations.
He also praised Kazakhstan for its thorough preparations for the second China-Central Asia Summit and expressed confidence that the event would usher in a new era of regional cooperation.
Regarding the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Xi affirmed China’s readiness, as the rotating chair, to collaborate with member states to use the upcoming Tianjin summit to strengthen the SCO and achieve meaningful progress.
In response, President Tokayev described China as Kazakhstan’s friendly neighbor, trustworthy friend, and dependable partner.
He said the permanent comprehensive strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China is entering a golden period, significantly contributing to both nations’ sustainable development and setting an example for international relations.
Tokayev emphasized the strong political resolve on both sides to enhance cooperation, pointing out that the two countries have consistently supported each other on matters of sovereignty and security, regardless of global shifts.
He praised China’s achievements under President Xi’s leadership and said Kazakhstan is sincerely proud of China’s progress, expressing confidence in its continued advancement.
Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan aims to deepen strategic trust and expand all-round cooperation with China, taking bilateral ties to new heights.
He advocated for advancing Belt and Road cooperation and widening collaboration in trade, investment, manufacturing, agriculture, energy, transport, and people-to-people areas such as education, culture, sports, and tourism.
Kazakhstan also voiced appreciation for China’s commitment to upholding international justice and fairness. Tokayev said Kazakhstan is ready to maintain close cooperation with China through platforms like the UN, SCO, BRICS, the China-Central Asia mechanism, and the CICA to help build a fairer global order.
After the talks, the two presidents witnessed the signing of over ten bilateral agreements covering cooperation in areas like trade, investment, technology, customs, tourism, and media.
