China has installed 58 solar-powered street lights across key locations in Karachi, aiming to enhance public safety, improve night-time mobility, and strengthen local infrastructure. The project is part of ongoing efforts to modernize the city’s facilities while supporting sustainable and environmentally friendly urban development. Officials described the initiative as a small yet meaningful step toward creating safer streets and improving the quality of life for Karachi residents.
The installation ceremony took place in Clifton and was attended by Chinese Consul General Yang Yundong and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, who both highlighted the significance of the project. Yang emphasized that such initiatives reflect the “all-weather” and “ironclad” partnership between Pakistan and China, demonstrating Beijing’s commitment to supporting community-level development and cooperation in urban planning.
Mayor Wahab stated that the newly installed solar lights have already positively impacted night-time mobility and pedestrian safety in the areas covered. He expressed appreciation for China’s continued collaboration and noted the city’s willingness to expand similar infrastructure projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), ensuring that sustainable urban solutions benefit the local population and strengthen bilateral ties.
