China has created a technical committee for Artificial Intelligence (AI) standardization to foster the growth of the AI industry and support new industrialization, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The committee, managed by the ministry, will handle the development and revision of industry standards for AI-related sectors, as outlined in the ministry’s online statement.
This committee is the first of its kind established by the ministry, signaling a new phase in AI sector standardization.
The initiative aligns with the goals set during China’s Central Economic Work Conference in December, which highlighted the launch of the “AI-plus” initiative to develop future industries.
China’s core AI industry reached a significant size of 578.7 billion yuan (approximately $79.3 billion) in 2023, supported by a robust ecosystem of 4,482 enterprises, according to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.
