China eyes $1B medical city in Dhabeji SEZ as the SIndh government confirmed during visit of a 12 member Chinese delegation.
A $1 billion medical city may soon take shape in the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Thatta, Sindh, following significant interest from a prominent Chinese business delegation, according to the Sindh government. This announcement was made during a visit by a 12-member delegation representing major Chinese companies, facilitated by Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh on Investment and Public-Private Partnership.
The Sindh Investment Department revealed that the delegation has plans to invest in various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, electric vehicles, fertilizers, agriculture, and livestock. Among these, the proposal for a medical city stands out, showcasing a strong focus on enhancing healthcare infrastructure under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.
During the discussions, Qamar highlighted Dhabeji SEZ as a flagship CPEC project, underscoring its strategic location with access to ports, highways, and railways, which makes it a prime spot for industrial and commercial ventures. The project reflects the deep and enduring partnership between Pakistan and China.
The delegation also proposed establishing facilities for manufacturing solar panels, inverters, and batteries, along with a fertilizer plant that would utilize coal instead of gas. These initiatives aim to foster collaboration with local partners, boosting industrial activity in the region.
Qamar further emphasized the promising investment opportunities in Sindh, describing Dhabeji SEZ as a hub designed to accommodate industrial, commercial, and residential requirements. He projected it as a key driver of regional industrial growth, technological advancement, and job creation.
The visit saw participation from high-ranking officials, including Secretary Investment Sindh Raja Khurram Shahzad, CEO of Sindh Economic Zone Management Company Abdul Azim Aqili, and CEO of Global Ventures Idrees Jiji, reflecting the provincial government’s strong commitment to facilitating foreign investments.
The Dhabeji SEZ continues to solidify its position as a cornerstone of Sindh’s industrial development ambitions, with the potential to transform the economic landscape and strengthen Pakistan-China relations further.
