China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Friday that it is currently evaluating the situation, following several recent attempts by the United States to initiate dialogue with China regarding tariff-related concerns.
A spokesperson from the ministry reiterated China’s long-standing stance, stating that while China is ready to engage in dialogue, it is also prepared to defend its interests fully if necessary.
The statement emphasized that the trade and tariff conflicts were started unilaterally by the U.S., and any move toward negotiation must be backed by genuine commitment—this includes correcting its missteps and removing the imposed unilateral tariffs.
Commenting on the U.S.’s ongoing discussions about adjusting its tariff policies, the spokesperson warned that without revoking the unjust tariff measures, any proposed dialogue would appear insincere and risk further eroding trust between the two countries.
The spokesperson firmly stated that China will not tolerate double standards or attempts to use negotiations as a façade for pressure tactics or intimidation.
