China Europe freight train hits 110,000 milestone as it achieves a significant landmark in regional connectivity under Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The 110,000th China-Europe freight train departed from Qingdao in Shandong Province on Tuesday morning, signifying a major achievement in the ongoing enhancement of the service’s quality and development.
The train, carrying 55 containers of household goods such as LCD monitors and refrigerators valued at nearly 20 million yuan (about 2.78 million U.S. dollars), will leave China through Erenhot Port in northern Inner Mongolia, the largest land port along the China-Mongolia border, and is expected to reach Europe in 17 days, according to Gao Yitian, an official at the Jiaozhou branch of the Jinan Railway Logistics Center.
Gao noted that over the past decade, the China-Europe freight train service has grown significantly—not only in the number of trips, but also in its routes, cargo variety, and overall efficiency. Shandong’s international logistics system now handles both Chinese exports and goods from countries like Japan, South Korea, and those in Southeast Asia.
He further added that these trains will continue to transport more “Made in China” products while enhancing service quality for Belt and Road Initiative partner countries and their populations.
Currently, 128 cities across China are connected to the China-Europe freight train network, which now reaches 229 cities in 26 European nations and more than 100 cities in 11 Asian countries.
