China donates $3 million to UN agency for aid in Gaza as Zeng Jixin, the head of Office of the People’s Republic of China to the State of Palestine signed the donation agreement at UNRWA.
On Thursday, China donated $3 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to aid its emergency humanitarian operations in Gaza.
China donates to UN Agency
Zeng Jixin, the head of the Office of the People’s Republic of China to the State of Palestine, signed the donation agreement with Antonia Marie De Meo, the Deputy Commissioner General for Operational Support at UNRWA, according to a statement from the office.
Zeng highlighted China’s longstanding support for UNRWA’s active role and urged the international community to back the agency’s efforts. He noted that China had previously provided emergency cash assistance following the Gaza conflict that erupted last year.
Zeng further emphasized that China will persist in its commitment to the Global Security Initiative, collaborating with the international community to swiftly end the conflict in Gaza, alleviate the severe humanitarian crisis, and work towards implementing the two-state solution.
UNRWA Response
Furthermore, Antonia De Meo, Deputy Commissioner-General of UNRWA Programmes, expressed her gratitude for the crucial donation, stating: “The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is unprecedented in its scale and severity. In these difficult times, China’s prompt financial support underscores its steadfast dedication to UNRWA’s mission and to easing the profound suffering endured by the Palestinian people in Gaza.”
She also expressed a desire to enhance cooperation with China to address the humanitarian emergency in Gaza.
