China donates 1,000 Bicycles to Nepal students to strengthen their educational access and make it feasible for students in remote areas.
A shipment of 1,000 bicycles from China was donated to Nepal on Monday, aimed at supporting students from nine community schools across two districts in Madhesh Province.
The project initially benefits 504 students from five schools in Bara district and 496 students from four schools in Parsa district.
Nepal is now the third country, after Cambodia and Laos, to receive bicycles through donations facilitated by Hello Inc., a bike-sharing company. The transportation costs were covered by the China Foundation for Rural Development, according to Zou Zhiqiang, the director of the foundation’s Nepal Office.
At the inauguration ceremony held in Birgunj, Zou expressed hope that this donation would be a meaningful step toward addressing the challenges faced by children in remote areas of Nepal in accessing education.
Imtiaz Alam, deputy mayor of Birgunj, expressed optimism about future support and the expansion of such initiatives.
Since its launch in 2021, the international bicycle project, jointly organized by the foundation and Hello Inc., has donated a total of 6,024 bicycles to Cambodia and Laos by the end of 2024.
In addition to the bicycle initiative, Wang Xin, a counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, highlighted several poverty-reduction demonstration projects implemented by the Chinese side in Nepal. These include programs like “Vibrant Village,” “Happy Community,” “Safe Drinking Water,” and “Lighting the Future.”
Wang further assured that the Chinese embassy would continue promoting development projects in Nepal to benefit its citizens.
