China extended congratulations to Joseph Aoun on his election as Lebanon’s president on Friday, expressing its commitment to fostering the development of bilateral relations.
Joseph Aoun, who serves as Lebanon’s army chief, was elected president during the second round of voting on Thursday. His election ends a presidential vacancy that had persisted in Lebanon for over two years.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun welcomed the news, stating at a press briefing that China congratulates Joseph Aoun on his election as Lebanon’s new president.
Guo highlighted the longstanding friendship between China and Lebanon, emphasizing China’s commitment to strengthening their bilateral relationship.
China will continue to support Lebanon in protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, while advancing friendly ties and mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors, Guo added.
