China and the Republic of Congo reiterated their mutual dedication to strengthening China-Africa cooperation and fostering shared development during a meeting in Brazzaville on Tuesday.
The discussions took place between President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
President Sassou welcomed Wang’s visit and asked him to convey his New Year’s greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping. He emphasized the historic importance of President Xi’s 2013 visit to Congo, marking Xi’s first overseas trip after assuming office. Sassou also highlighted Africa’s increasing prominence globally and expressed hope that China’s focus on Africa would encourage greater international support for the continent.
Sassou commended President Xi’s 10 partnership action plans announced during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He noted that these plans address crucial development areas such as infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and industrialization, which are key to the progress of Congo and other African nations. As FOCAC co-chair, Sassou pledged Congo’s full commitment to implementing these initiatives and ensuring the success of China-Africa cooperation.
Wang Yi conveyed President Xi’s greetings and reaffirmed China’s enduring commitment to Africa. He praised Congo as an essential partner of China and acknowledged its remarkable development under President Sassou’s leadership. Wang highlighted the significance of China’s annual tradition of beginning the year with the foreign minister’s visit to Africa, demonstrating its unwavering support for African nations.
Wang emphasized the robust ties between China and Congo and assured China’s readiness to be Congo’s most dependable partner in its development efforts. He also voiced support for Congo’s leadership role as FOCAC co-chair in advancing international collaboration with Africa.
Wang concluded by expressing China’s willingness to work closely with Congo to fully implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit, focusing on mutual modernization goals, advancing Africa’s growth, and enhancing Congo’s international standing.
