The China Coast Guard (CCG) on Friday issued a stern warning to the Philippines, demanding an immediate halt to what it described as infringements, provocations, and false accusations in the South China Sea. The warning follows a recent incident at Ren’ai Jiao, where a Philippine warship, long considered illegally grounded by Beijing, deployed two small boats that deliberately approached Chinese vessels despite repeated cautions.
According to CCG spokesperson Gan Yu, the Philippine boats acted in an “unprofessional and hazardous manner,” disregarding multiple warnings. Chinese coast guard ships, which were conducting routine law enforcement operations, responded with control measures in line with established laws and regulations. The CCG also released footage showing two Philippine boats approaching a Chinese vessel, with one person aboard appearing to hold a camera.
Gan stressed that the Chinese operations were lawful and necessary, underscoring that the CCG will continue rights-protection enforcement in Ren’ai Jiao to “resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and maritime rights.”
