China, CELAC legal forum strengthens cooperation as it gathered representatives from 18 countries.
A forum focused on legal cooperation between China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) took place in Shanghai on Wednesday.
The inaugural China-CELAC Legal Forum gathered representatives from 18 countries, including China, Argentina, the Bahamas, Brazil, and Chile.
The forum concentrated on enhancing legal cooperation between China and the CELAC nations. Emphasizing that legal collaboration is a vital aspect of China-CELAC relations, it called for deeper engagement in this area to foster the development of these relations in the modern era.
The forum will examine legal cooperation in key sectors such as the digital economy, technological innovation, finance, trade, investment, and climate-related issues.
Wang Hongxiang, Secretary of the Leading Party Member’s Group of the China Law Society (CLS), stated, “As a driving force in global development, a modernizing China will bring greater benefits to people worldwide, including those in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
Carmen Eneida Alves, Judge of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela, expressed hopes for stronger cooperation between Chinese and CELAC legal experts.
Alves highlighted the increasing urgency of strengthening legal frameworks and governance in today’s more interconnected and complex world. She noted that collaboration between China and CELAC countries presents a unique opportunity to drive economic growth, attract investment, and boost trade.
The forum, sponsored by the China Law Society (CLS), was co-hosted by the China-Latin America Legal Research Center (Shanghai), the Law School of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE), and the Chinese Modernization Institute at SUFE.
