China, Cambodia launch ‘Golden Dragon-2025’ Exercise after the launch of the joint support and training center.
The “Golden Dragon-2025” joint exercise between China and Cambodia commenced following the official opening of the China-Cambodia Joint Support and Training Center at Port Ream. Experts foresee the center hosting more future joint drills, which will foster stronger military relations and promote regional peace.
The “Golden Dragon-2025” exercise was launched during the inauguration of the center, highlighting its role in strengthening the military ties and friendship between China and Cambodia.
The exercise involved naval drills, including formation movements, maritime communication, and equipment exercises, which improved their command coordination and operational capacity, setting the stage for future combined training across land, sea, and air forces.
The “Golden Dragon” series represents ongoing military cooperation between China and Cambodia, aimed at enhancing their strong bilateral relationship and improving military coordination. This exercise marks the sixth successful iteration.
Military expert Fu Qianshao emphasized that the first exercise at the new center is designed to maintain regional stability, with the Port Ream naval base now fully equipped for naval operations, thanks to Chinese support.
Experts predict that joint exercises will become more frequent, incorporating land, sea, and air forces, enhancing China’s military exchanges with other nations and contributing to peace in the South China Sea.
Following the center’s inauguration, the Chinese Ministry of National Defense confirmed that the center will support joint operations in counterterrorism, disaster relief, humanitarian aid, and military training.
At the ceremony, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, alongside a Chinese military delegation, emphasized that the center’s establishment is based on mutual respect and will deepen practical military cooperation.
Military expert Zhang Junshe explained that the China-Cambodia joint center, unlike China’s independent base in Djibouti, is a shared facility that also supports Cambodia’s military modernization, addressing Western claims of a Chinese military base in Cambodia.
Prime Minister Hun Manet firmly denied accusations that the renovated base would grant China exclusive military access, reaffirming that the base’s purpose is to strengthen Cambodia’s defense.
Hun Manet announced that Cambodia welcomes warships from friendly nations and joint exercises at the base, expressing gratitude for China’s continued support in strengthening Cambodia’s defense capabilities.
Zhang Junshe assured that the China-Cambodia joint center, similar to China’s base in Djibouti, does not pose a threat to other countries, and instead contributes to enhancing regional peace, stability, and development.
