A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday urged the international community to step up efforts to de-escalate the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Spokesperson Guo Jiakun highlighted the strategic importance of the Persian Gulf and nearby waters, noting that they serve as crucial international routes for global trade and energy transportation.
Guo emphasized that safeguarding peace and stability in the region is in the shared interest of the entire international community.
He made these remarks in response to media reports about the Iranian parliament’s decision on Sunday to support closing the key Strait of Hormuz, although the final authority lies with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
This development follows recent U.S. airstrikes targeting three significant Iranian nuclear facilities.
