China’s envoy to UN blasted the United States for vetoing a UN Security Council resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the lifting of restrictions on humanitarian aid.
China’s UN Ambassador Fu Cong expressed deep disappointment over the vote’s outcome, stating the resolution addressed the urgent needs of Gaza’s population and echoed the strong voice of the international community.
He condemned the U.S. for once again misusing its veto, saying this action has crushed hopes for Gaza’s people and left over two million individuals in crisis. He urged the international community to hold Washington accountable.
Fu stressed that the Security Council, responsible for maintaining global peace, had largely reached consensus on a Gaza ceasefire. However, he blamed repeated U.S. obstruction for the Council’s inability to resolve the conflict.
He pointed out that the U.S. has consistently vetoed ceasefire resolutions on Gaza and that its protective stance toward Israel has prevented the proper implementation of previously adopted measures.
Rejecting the U.S. claim that Council action would hinder diplomacy, Fu argued that genuine peace efforts would be strengthened—not undermined—by UN support.
He emphasized that the global push for justice, international law, and the Security Council’s credibility cannot be derailed by a single permanent member’s veto. He called on the U.S. to fulfill its responsibilities with fairness and integrity.
Fu noted that the conflict has seen the misuse of humanitarian aid, destruction of civilian infrastructure, and killings of journalists and aid workers. He said Israel’s actions have violated international humanitarian law and defied UN and ICJ rulings.
He added that these violations have continued unchecked due to protection from a particular country, implying the U.S.
Observing humanitarian law is a binding duty, he stressed, warning that selective enforcement and double standards threaten the very basis of international legal order.
Fu reaffirmed China’s readiness to work with global partners to end the Gaza conflict, ease the humanitarian crisis, implement the two-state solution, and pursue a just and lasting peace for the Palestinian issue.
