China appreciates Pakistan for arresting key suspect in KU attack: Chinese spokesperson

“China is closely following Pakistan’s investigation into the terrorist attack at the Confucius Institute of the University of Karachi. We appreciate the strong efforts made by the Pakistani side,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at the routine press conference on Wednesday.

It’s reported that in a news conference on July 5, the Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the arrest of a key suspect involved in the terrorist attack on Chinese teachers at the Confucius Institute of the University of Karachi this April.

The minister said that the attack was a joint operation of the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). It’s also learned that some foreign forces are suspected of manipulating behind the scenes.

“At the same time, further investigation is still underway. We hope the Pakistani side will get to the bottom of this attack, bring the perpetrators to justice, take down the terrorist organizations involved in the attack and ensure the safety of Chinese projects, personnel and institutions in Pakistan,” Zhao added.

“Justice will not be absent and the evil will be severely punished. Terrorism is the common enemy for all mankind and fighting terrorism is the shared responsibility of the international community. At present, international terrorism continues to pose serious threats to people’s safety and stability in all countries. All parties shall strengthen coordination and cooperation and take all measures to crack down on terrorism and jointly uphold world peace and tranquility,” Zhao said earlier.

Zhao remarked that China will also firmly support Pakistan’s efforts on counterterrorism to provide an even safer environment for China-Pakistan cooperation.
