Despite the corona pandemic, at least 1.1 million Pakistanis have acquired jobs abroad in the past three years, while two million more people will find jobs in the next two years in foreign countries, according to Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain.
The Information Minister Thursday shared official data released by the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas. The official data shows that from 2019 to October 2021, 1,028,640 people got jobs abroad, including 625,203 in 2019, 224,705 in 2020 while 176,732 people got jobs during the first ten months of the current year.
China is one of the 10 foreign destinations for Pakistani job seekers. In the past three years, at least 1,943 Pakistanis have obtained jobs in different cities of China. In 2019, 1,252 people got jobs in China; in 2020, the number remained at 298 while in the first ten months of 2021, at least 393 Pakistanis found jobs in China.
Despite the strict measures taken by the Chinese government to contain the coronavirus, 691 Pakistanis have been granted jobs since January 2020.
China has remained one of the main destinations for Pakistani job seekers throughout history. Between 1971 and 2021, at least 6,617 Pakistanis obtained jobs in China. Official data shows that from 1971 to 2010, at least 1717 Pakistanis went to China for jobs followed by 180 in 2011, 220 in 2012, 155 in 2013, 254 in 2014, 355 in 2015, 482 in 2016, 457 in 2017, 854 in 2018 and 1254 in 2019. The highest number was recorded in 2019; however, the number receded in the following years due to the Corona pandemic.
