The fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo began on Thursday in Changsha, central China, showcasing China’s continued dedication to deepening economic ties with Africa, continent that hosts the most developing countries globally.
The four-day event brings together nearly 4,700 companies from China and Africa and over 30,000 attendees. Operating under the theme “China and Africa: Together Toward Modernization,” the expo has already seen cooperation agreements worth over $11 billion, according to organizers.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who attended the opening, expressed confidence that the expo will open new avenues for collaboration between China and Africa and deliver substantial results.
Wang emphasized that regardless of global shifts, China will remain a steadfast supporter of Africa’s development journey, standing by the continent as a genuine partner and trusted friend.
Dignitaries attending the opening included Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Liberian Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, and Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi.
Wang noted that modernization is a shared goal for the 2.8 billion people of China and Africa, forming the cornerstone of the China-Africa community with a shared future.
He added that China is committed to continuing exchanges of governance practices with African nations and aligning development strategies to advance ten cooperative modernization initiatives.
Wang also promised expanded market access for African goods through more economic partnership agreements, while China aims to support Africa’s industrial growth and digital advancement through practical collaboration.
