Pakistan’s largest exploration and production company, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), has officially begun oil production from the Pasakhi-14 development well in Hyderabad, Sindh. The company disclosed the milestone in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), confirming an initial output of 1,100 barrels of oil per day.
Pasakhi-14 is part of the Pasakhi & Pasakhi North Development and Production Lease, where OGDCL maintains a 100% working interest. The well was drilled to 2,183 meters, targeting the hydrocarbon-rich upper sands of the Lower Goru formation, one of Sindh’s key reservoirs.
For the first time in its operations, OGDCL deployed a combination of Rotary Steerable System (RSS), Electromagnetic Measurement While Drilling (MWD), and a nitrified mud system, significantly improving directional accuracy while protecting formation integrity. The well is completed with Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) technology to maximise production efficiency.
The company stated that the successful delivery of Pasakhi-14 reflects its push toward exploration-led growth, enhanced drilling performance, and production optimisation. OGDCL added that the new output directly supports Pakistan’s energy security at a time when domestic supply remains a national challenge.
OGDCL, incorporated in 1997 to succeed the former Oil & Gas Development Corporation, founded in 1961, continues to dominate the country’s upstream sector through strategic expansion and advanced drilling methods.
