BRI symposium advances veterinary science and technology by bringing together experts from regional counties in Beijing.
The BRI Veterinary Drug and Vaccine Symposium 2024 commenced in Beijing as part of the Advanced Workshop on Veterinary Drug and Vaccine Technology in BRI Countries, gathering experts and policymakers from Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, Iran, and other regional nations.
Organized by China Agricultural University and the Chinese Veterinary Medical Association, with support from China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, the event established a strong platform for collaboration and innovation in veterinary science among participating nations.
The opening session, led by Prof. Cheng He, marked the start of a week-long series of knowledge-sharing and strategic discussions.
Key addresses were delivered by notable figures, including Liu Xiuli, Deputy Secretary General of the China Veterinary Medicine Association; Afifa Shajia, Education Attaché at Pakistan’s Embassy in Beijing; Zhang Bing, Chairman of the Shandong Binzhou Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine Academy; and Esmaeil Mehryar, Science and Technology Counselor at Iran’s Embassy. They emphasized the importance of cross-border collaboration in advancing veterinary drug and vaccine technology within the BRI framework.
In her keynote, Liu Xiuli highlighted China’s achievements in veterinary medicine and vaccine innovation, stressing the role of technology transfer and regional cooperation in addressing zoonotic diseases and improving animal health systems.
Ms. Liu concluded the inaugural session with a detailed presentation on the development of China’s veterinary drug and vaccine industry, showcasing the country’s progress and its aspirations for global partnerships.
Throughout the symposium, participants will engage in technical training, workshops, and visits to research facilities. Topics include animal disease control, vaccine development, market strategies, and investment opportunities under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Notable speakers include Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Kiani, discussing investment in the animal industry under CPEC, and Dr. Li Huachun, offering insights into disease prevalence and veterinary markets in the Mekong region.
The symposium seeks to exchange scientific knowledge and practical expertise among BRI nations, aiming to innovate veterinary drug and vaccine technologies. It also addresses key challenges like regulatory harmonization, capacity building, and market expansion to support sustainable livestock production and food security.
Attendees will tour cutting-edge facilities such as the Beijing R&D Center of Zhao Fenghua Group and Inner Mongolia’s Jin Yu Biotechnology Co., Ltd., gaining insight into advanced vaccine production techniques and exploring technology transfer and partnership opportunities.
Organizers and participants are optimistic about the symposium’s ability to foster collaboration, drive technological progress, and strengthen regional ties. With active engagement from stakeholders, the event is poised to become a landmark in advancing veterinary science under the Belt and Road Initiative.
